How the Golgi Tendon Organ breaks the cycle of spasm

Irvin Korr PhD proposed a thrust would turn down the “gamma gain”, which is what he called the overexcited outflow of motor signals from the spinal cord that were causing somatic dysfunction (Source: The Chiropractic Theories Robert Leach 2nd. Ed. pg. 103)6

In a rapid thrust, the GTO’s would be stimulated by forced stretch of the skeletal (extrafusal) muscle causing gamma as well as alpha motor neuron inhibition. A safety reaction normally used by the body to prevent tearing of the tendon, when rapidly applied over a low amplitude (high velocity, low amplitude aka HVLA) results in a reset of the somatic dysfunction back to normal.7
